It's been a while!

I haven't really posted in a long while. But I am going to try to be more committed to posting this new year. I hope everyone had a great Christmas, I know I had one of the, if not the best, ever!! So we are in the new house, and I got to pick out the real tree. Just like they did on the Christmas story! I even came home one day from work to find Jake had put Christmas lights on the house! LOVE HIM!

Our house became a center point for Christmas celebrations. On the 23rd, I cooked a massive dinner ( ham, dressing, greenbean casserole, sweet potato casserole, rolls, and carrot cake, well jake made the carrot cake) for jake's brothers and Melissa. It was nice just hanging out. I had to work on Christmas Eve, which has horrible. Let's just say my day involved calling the police on a patient. Yay!.... I came home exhausted to find my wonderful family waiting on me! Jake had cooked Christmas food and even made peppermint bark. The family Christmas theme was tacky sweaters! The picks are great, my dad's sweater even had a built in turtle neck. After we gave our neices and nephew their presents, we headed to the movies. Our family tradition is going to see a movie on Christmas eve night. We couldn't go until 10 pm, since I had to work.

We sat through Alvin and the Chipmunks movie, but the kids and my mom liked it. Then, we went on our seperate ways. We got home at like 1 am. Jake and I decided we were going to give each other one gift which turned into opening all our gifts by 1:30!! So Jake played with his PS3 and I played with my iphone until 3 am.

On christmas morning, we went to my parents for lunch. That night Jake's mom side came over for dinner. We ended eating Chinese, since Christmas food was getting kind of old!

We had a great Christmas, and are looking forward to a wonderfule new year! 2010 should be a wonderful year. Two of my best friends are getting married. I hopefully should be starting school to be a nurse practioner. Jake and I are planning to go on a big trip in the fall! We have list of things we must do before babies come!! I just can't wait to see what we check off this year!

I need to rename my blog!!

Okay, as of three weeks ago, I am no longer working the night shift. I have rejoined the rest of society in the daylight hours. This does pose a potential problem; the title Nocturnal Nurse no longer fits me. So what to do? Any suggestions will be appreciated!!

We just got back from a vacation in Gulf Shores. It was wonderful and greatly needed. It was our first vacay since the honeymoon. Wow, that was a long time ago!

Yesterday was my 24th birthday. Oh, my! Seriously, where did time go? I used to think 24 was kinda old. I mean like, raising babies old. And everyone now knows my stance on that. It was a great day though. I had the day off, so I was awaken by a big breakfast in bed. From pancakes to bacon, Jake went all out. Love him! Then, I slept till like 9:30! Around 11, my sister came and picked me up, and we met my other sister for lunch! Fun times!! Love them! Then Melissa came over and we hung out all day! Just sat and talked. Love her! Jake came home from work (with beautiful flowers), and the three of us cooked a great dinner. Then we proceeded to hang out until we realized Melissa had never seen the Hangover. Gasp!! We found out it was still playing, so we dropped everything and went to watch it. The day was packed full of activities! I loved all the special things people did for me from the calls, texts, facebook messages, and the special things they did. It made a girl feel special on her b-day!

Painters are done!!

So on September 10th the painters finally finished the job. Um... like months after we semi-moved-in (is that a word?). So next step is to decorate. I do not know where to start. I mean we do not have any pieces of art, or furniture, or lamps, or really anything. I guess we are starting from scratch, but we do have freshly painted walls!! I am welcome to any ideas. Pictures shall be posted soon!!

On other news, we got some great news about my dad. He is in remission!! I am so thankful for all the prayers, thoughts, and kindness our family has been shown. It has paid off!

Other thoughts: well being married over a year now, the number one question we get is "When are you going to have a little one?" I am sure the other marrieds can vouche. (No one get excited, this is not a pregnancy announcement. Actually, it is quite the opposite.) So, Jake and I have talked about children. I mean, I work with babies all day. I get the baby fever, but that is because I see them when they are cute and cuddly. We always decide on a different time frame to start having children. But the other night we had an experience that solidified our decision to wait five years!!

We were shopping for some dear friend's baby's present. It will be their first child, and we are so tickled for them!! We go into Baby-R-Us to get a gift. As soon as we walk into the store, it is a huge wake-up call. I mean it is the size of Walmart but all about babies. What happened to all a baby needed was a cloth diaper and a boob. Now it is a world of Boppies and Bumbos. These are considered essentials, lets not go into the vast selection of optionals. Then, you start think about daycares or are you going to stay home. Or how about naming the kid, I mean a name can dictate a kids life (Think about it, Hitler or Stalin anyone? ). My patient and her husband the other day had already started stocking their kid's college fund, and he wasn't even born yet!!! Hello, I don't think I am at all ready for this. Granted no one is every ready, but I am REALLY not ready. So lately when the question "When are you and Jake going to have kids?" is presented to me, it is usually met by a resounded NEVER, followed by a nervous giggle (because I am seriously thinking that), then my proper response of "We are going to wait until we are more established" makes an appearance.

I have found I am not alone in these thoughts. Upon leaving Baby Walmart, Jake starts complaining of an upset stomach. Then he says," I think it from all the baby stuff. Let's not have kids for a while, like when we are thirty."

Sounds like a plan to me!! Liz, I leave the production of babies up to you!

For my two faithful followers!

I know that Melissa and Liz get a kick out of my blogging, so girls this one is for you!

I am now in my house, my stuff is in my house (still in boxes, but physically in), but the painters are not OUT of my house! I am going to pull my hair out. These crazy painters have already taken three days to "touch up paint." Really? How much touch up does a fully painted house need? Just come in here and paint my base boards and leave!! Of course you won't get here until 10am, and by the time you set up your cooler and lounge stations (aka your lawn chairs on my hardwood floors) it will probably be time for lunch. Oh, and make sure you leave by 4pm so you won't miss "Wheel of Fortune." Thankfully, we are not paying them by the hour, or I would physically be standing behind them with a whip!!!

Okay, I am done with my ranting! So the update on my non-laziness gig: Bills: paid and on budget!! Cleanliness: Mediocre.. Definately better than the old house. I can't unpack until the painters get done (I blame all my problems on them) Amber's health/fitness: I have been running!! Which might counteract all the fatty food I have been eating... probably not. I did get the Weight Watchers book. I will unpack that as soon as I can (when you know who finishes). So overall I give my performance a B-. So, I am sitting at a 3.0. I am okay with that. Never have been the over achiever!

I do think I would have a B+ if it wasn't for the painters, though!!

First Blogging Experience!

I am actually really excited about blogging, and I am sure Jacob (my hubby) would probably make fun of me for saying, or typing, that. I have found since I work night shift that it is hard for me to transition to a "regular schedule" on my nights off. So, usually I go to sleep at the same time Jacob does, and I am wide awake three hours later. Tonight as an example, bed at 10 pm awake at 1:26 am (I might have cussed when I looked at the clock) and now at 5:17 am, I am starting a blog. This morning, I have already paid our bills, made out a monthly budget, completed appropriate Facebook and Myspace stalking, and re-evaluated my life. So hence the name of the blog, "The life of the nocturnal nurse." Basically, I sit around and do nothing in the wee hours of the morning. Hopefully, this will occupy my time some.

So like I said earlier, I re-evaluated my life at about 4:10ish. I have decided to turn-over a new leaf. For those who know me, I am catergorized as the scatterbrained, messy, and unpredictable (maybe sometimes unreliable) friend. I am graduallly going to train myself to be more "together." Jake and I will be moving in to our new house in less than a week, so there is no better time than now to start. I plan on doing things one at a time. I seemed to get overwhelmed easily. The first item on the new agenda that is MY LIFE IS ....

#1. Stop being lazy!
I think that this leads to many of my downfalls! I need just spend time everyday cleaning, cooking, exercising, and paying more attention to our financials. Instead, I think I sleep and Facebook stalk. So today, I am going to be more productive with my time! Yep, I going to do it!

I will let you know how it goes!
